March 5th — April 20th
Since 2007, the SW community, businesses, and faith communities have worked in partnership to combat food insecurity. With a growing number of food-insecure households, the SW Hope annual food and fund drive helps ensure no family goes hungry in our community. SW Hope supports the Neighborhood House Free Food Market, which provides food to more than 12,000 people every year – more than 25% of whom are children. Helping neighbors with ever-increasing food costs allows them to focus on paying rent, buying medicine, and other necessities.
This year MPC will again be supporting the SW Hope drive, with a goal of raising $1,917 in monetary and food donations. This amount is in reference to Proverbs 19:17— “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord.”
Monetary donations are the most effective way to support the drive: you can donate online at www.nhpdx.org/sw-hope, (please let the office know so we can count these in our total); checks should be made out to "Neighborhood House" with SW Hope written on the memo line; and cash can be put in an envelope marked SW Hope and placed in the offering basket. Any food donations can go in the red collection barrel in the fellowship area.
And there are plenty of other events going on to help raise money and awareness:

SW Hope 5K
Saturday, April 12, 9:45am @ Oregon Episcopal School
Bring the whole family to participate in the 10th annual SW Hope 5K. More than 300 people join together to run or walk, raise funds and fight food insecurity in our community.
We are back again at the beautiful Oregon Episcopal School campus in SW Portland, starting at 9:45am with the kids’ Bunny run and the 5K to follow at 10:15am.
Last year a group of more than 20 of us represented MPC, and we plan to do it again! We will meet before the event and walk (or run) together for a time of fellowship and fresh air. Invite friends and neighbors. Sign-up (and see some familiar faces from last year!) here and you're welcome to join the “Multnomah Pres God Squad” group when you register. Although some participants will be running, many of us will be walking. Those who are walking more slowly, or are daunted by the length of the course, can opt out of the second lap. Hope to see you there!
