MINISTRIES

Small Groups

A variety of small group studies exist at MPC. Daytime, evenings, women’s or men’s, or mixed groups meet on various days of the week. Because of the nature of these groups, please contact Pastor Sylvia for more information about joining a group. Examples of the various groups are as follows.

Small groupsSERMON BASED SMALL GROUPS: These groups are based on the previous week’s Sunday message. The study includes discussion, prayer and sometimes. . .food!  Open enrollment for these groups are twice yearly; in the fall and new year. At other times, you need to register for these groups through Sylvia.

PASTOR’S BIBLE STUDY: Led by Pastor John, these studies are on various books of the Bible and meet either on Tuesday morning at 10 AM or Wednesday evening at 7 PM. All are welcome. Child care is available upon request.

MEN’S BREAKFAST STUDY: Every Friday morning a group of men meet at the church at 6:30 AM for food and study. All men are welcome.

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN: A monthly meeting for women which includes lunch and a study. All women are welcome.

Educational Groups

Alpha logoALPHA: ALPHA is a class that began in England several years ago and is now offered all over the world.  It is an introduction to the Christian faith in a warm and welcoming way. Bear Grylls, from “Man vs. Wild” says, “Alpha is a way to explore what we hunger after– meaning, intimacy and relationship--in a very non-pressed, non-judgmental environment.” Just come the first night, share a delicious meal, watch a video and join a discussion or just sit back and listen. No question is seen as too hostile or too simple to ask. Though the class meets one night per week for eleven weeks, if you don’t want to come back after that first week, no one will phone you or send you any junk mail!  Alpha is super laid back and fun. If you never ask the questions, you’ll never get the answers.

THE MARRIAGE COURSE: The Marriage Course is a seven week course designed to help any married couple strengthen their relationship. There is no group discussion; all conversations are between the husband and wife only.  The course covers: Building Strong Foundations, The Art of Communication, Resolving Conflict, The Power of Forgiveness, The Impact of Family: Past and Present, Good Sex, Love in Action.  This course is offered once a year at MPC.

Additional educational groups include the Parenting Class, Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University, and Basic Bible class. Information on these groups is available by contacting the church office.

Prayer Ministries

PRAYER TEAM: Our prayer team meets after each worship service at the front of the sanctuary for private prayer with anyone who comes forward with a need. We encourage you to meet with someone from the team if you need prayer for any reason.

The church also has a prayer chain. If you have a prayer request that you would like put on the prayer chain, please call the church office with your request.

PRAYER MEETING: We meet every Tuesday evening at 7 PM in the chapel for prayers for healing and help. Join us in prayer or come to be ministered to in prayer.

Outreach Ministries

FAITH IN ACTION SUNDAY
Faith in ActionTwice a year our congregation gathers for prayer and worship and then spreads out into the community to serve our neighbors in Portland and around the world. More about Faith In Action is on the Missions page.

DEACONS: Our ordained Deacons serve on an ongoing basis to meet the physical and emotional and spiritual needs of our congregation during times of hospitalization, grief and illness. They also seek to serve those in our neighborhood who need emergency assistance on a one-time basis.

Youth Ministries

Kids learning about Christ
At MPC it is our goal to make sure that kids get to know who Jesus is and how much he loves them, and in turn understand how they can and should share that love with others.  We also want them to discover what an amazing book the Bible is and have fun learning how it applies to their life. Read more about our children and youth ministries here.

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
